"Can We Even Buy A House?"

My fiancée and I moved to Woodstock a couple years ago for my first job after college. We found a great apartment on our first day looking. It was in a great location walking distance to downtown. It was also on the third floor, which meant no upstairs neighbors stomping around. Most importantly, we were able to get a good price.

We weren’t sure how long we wanted to stay in Woodstock, so we decided renting was the best option. In the blink of an eye, we approached the two year anniversary of our apartment life. We began realizing that we might actually be here to stay, and the thought of renting started to seem less and less appealing. Why would we want to throw away our rent money every month when we could buy a house and build equity? This thought was always followed with “wait, can we even buy a house???”

To be honest, we were scared of the home buying process. We felt totally in the dark and needed some answers.

Spooky Scary Homebuying

First of all, we weren’t even sure we could get a loan! Since we had student debt, we figured no mortgage lender would want to help us. Plus, we weren’t married yet. What did that mean for owning a home together? Secondly, we had no experience maintaining a home. We paid the same amount of rent each month, and our apartment maintenance crew took care of the rest. That sort of stability is a blessing, especially right out of college! Finally, homeownership just feels out-of-reach for many Millennials like us. None of our friends owned houses, and we very acutely remembered how our parents struggled during the Great Recession (which feels like it just happened a few years ago). We are constantly told that Millennials can’t buy houses or be financially stable, so homeownership just seemed out of grasp.

We started casually looking at houses and dreaming of starting our life together in a place we owned. After speaking with Mr. Woodstock & Associates, that dream seemed more like a reality and less like a fantasy!

Buying Is Not As Scary As It Seems

We are paying $1250/month in rent for our two-bedroom apartment in Woodstock. We had NO IDEA that for that price, we could purchase a house priced at $215,000!!! Our Realtor Wes Wiggins put us in touch with his preferred lender Travis Newberry. We soon found out more good news—we have great credit! Travis quickly pre-approved us for a mortgage.

Since then, Wes has shown us houses all around Woodstock & Canton. He’s even telling us about some homes in Kennesaw and Acworth (we saw a great one in Acworth last weekend, actually). We have been having lots of fun and laughs going to see houses with Wes, and he has done a great job of helping us analyze the houses we see. We have some time to be patient and find the right home, and we’re confident Wes and the rest of the Mr. Woodstock & Associates team will be with us every step of the way.
