What's Up, Woodstock?

I’ve lived in the Woodstock area for a very long time now…long enough to watch it grow from a small town into the bustling place it is now. I feel like there’s always something cool happening here. Whether it’s a great outdoor concert, TGIF celebrations downtown, or one of the many parades and festivals that happen throughout town, Woodstock is definitely the place to be if you want an active community. Sometimes, there are so many things to do in Woodstock that sometimes it can be hard to keep track of it all.

Fear Of Missing Out

How many times have you seen a social media post from someone talking about how much fun they had at a local event that you didn’t even know about? I don’t know about you, but I see this a lot and it gives me serious FOMO.

For those of you who don’t have teenage children like I do, that’s “fear of missing out.” Urban Dictionary defines this as fear, anxiety, or regret that you might miss out on something great. I have hosted events myself, and I know how hard it can be to cut through the static and get the word out. That is to say, I understand what our many local groups and businesses are going through when they promote events. Not only that, but Woodstock is one of the fastest growing cities in Georgia. There are always new homes going up, and they sure do sell quickly! It seems like everyone wants to live here. This means there are always new people in town who may not know how to find out about great events.

A Crowdsourced Solution

The best way to find out about local events is from your friends and neighbors. However, there’s not always a great way to spark this kind of conversation. That’s why I started What’s Up Woodstock, a facebook group for crowdsourcing local events. The members of What’s Up Woodstock will post events all week long. Every Thursday, we collect as many local events as we can find for the weekend into a single organized post. In addition, we celebrate #SmallBusinessSunday. On Sundays, small businesses from around town will promote themselves, and members of the group can learn about some of the amazing local businesses our town has to offer!

Woodstock is famous for its downtown parties, but it has so much more to offer. In fact, it may surprise you to know that most of the events we find are actually family events! There’s always a story time at one of our local bookshops or toy stores featuring your child’s favorite characters. Most events hosted by the city are family-friendly as well!

While we focus on Woodstock, we make sure to include interesting events from the surrounding area, such as Kennesaw, Canton, and sometimes as far as Marietta or Roswell. The truth is we love Woodstock, which is why we specialize in selling Woodstock homes. But we certainly know that this area has a lot to offer outside of Woodstock as well.
